CPLP - How Are You Linking Learning to Organizational Objectives?

In the Spring 2009 issue of Bellevue University Human Capital Lab's Innovation@Work newsletter, David Vance (former President of Caterpillar University and CLO magazine's 2006 CLO of the Year) said this about the business of learning:

"It is difficult to make a business case for learning without being aligned with the strategic goals of the organization. This is more important than ever given the economy. Rather than relying on the fact that the organization has always spent money on learning because it makes their employees happy, or it is the 'right thing to do,' learning leaders must link their learning initiatives with overall corporate objectives. While you may not know all of the CEO's objectives, make it your business to find the top two or three and address them in your learning program."
