7:41 pm

larrystraining:

I am excited to hear about your #ELW activities. I see that is one of our topics. #cplpchat

7:45 pm

larrystraining:

Hi John, I spent my Basic and AIT at Ft Leonard Wood, many many years ago. #cplpchat

7:45 pm

larrystraining:

Hi Suzanne! #cplpchat

7:45 pm

SolutionSource:

#cplpchat Tell me about your employee learning week?

7:46 pm

MDOT_DCS:

You wouldn't recognize the place, Larry! #cplpchat

8:23 pm

SuzNet:

#2 I pursued #ASTD #CPLP cuz I view it as good prep for challenges of the future; I have background in IT, biz processes, #cplpchat

8:24 pm

MDOT_DCS:

Q3 - (too busy laughing to reply!) No, really - some think it's a flop? #cplpchat

8:24 pm

larrystraining:

Q3) Can you be more specific. How do they suggest it is a flop? #cplpchat

8:24 pm

trishuhl:

@SuzNet Our backgrounds are similar :-) #cplpchat

8:25 pm

SolutionSource:

@MDOT_DCS great resources - Thank YOU #cplpchat

8:25 pm

trishuhl:

@MDOT_DCS LOL Yes. That is the latest term - "a flop" #cplpchat

8:26 pm

MDOT_DCS:

@SolutionSource The 3 schools are competing to see who comes up w/ the best use of social media in classroom - we'll know in Jan! #cplpchat

8:26 pm

trishuhl:

Q3) The #PMP is more than 30 years old. I sat the exam in 2003 - there were 50k PMPs worldwide now there are 353k (in 6 years!) #cplpchat

8:26 pm

SuzNet:

#3 There is very low awareness among employers, potential candidates in our market area -- where is it catching on? #cplpchat

8:27 pm

MDOT_DCS:

@SolutionSource two more then you can rest your eyes: http://bit.ly/3aLiDb and http://bit.ly/Akn6P #cplpchat

8:27 pm

larrystraining:

Q3) Is it the fact that people can't just walk in and get the certificate for purchasing the books? #cplpchat

8:27 pm

trishuhl:

Q3) It took SHRM 10+ years to have its creds go mainstream; the #CPLP is not quite (operationally) 4 yrs old; unless u count pilot #cplpchat

8:28 pm

MDOT_DCS:

Q3 - you have to build a base of appreciation (and awareness) before it will "go viral" - not all in life is instant gratification #cplpchat

8:28 pm

trishuhl:

@SuzNet Q3) We definitely have traction with employers - I have monitored job postings on indeed.com for years and watched the +++ #cplpchat

8:28 pm

SuzNet:

@trishuhl - yup, but I've always gravitated towards the learning aspects and have morphed along the way; now I struggle with tech #cplpchat

8:28 pm

MDOT_DCS:

@trishuhl personally I count the pilot. :D #cplpchat

8:29 pm

trishuhl:

Q3) ASTD CI now posts #ASTD job board employers seeking CPLPs on its Web site - http://www.cplp.astd.org/ - look for Word doc #cplpchat

8:29 pm

trishuhl:

@MDOT_DCS LOL As you know, it was a true pilot. I count the time in dog years:-D #cplpchat

8:30 pm

MDOT_DCS:

Q1 and Q3 - having the CPLP got me a new position in favor of some very tough competition... I'm a fan! #cplpchat

8:30 pm

trishuhl:

@MDOT_DCS Agreed - and is it not incumbent upon us - the #CPLP community to assist #ASTD in doing that? Getting the word out? #cplpchat

8:30 pm

trishuhl:

15mins to go in #cplpchat #cplpchat

8:31 pm

trishuhl:

@larrystraining Agreed, Larry - and #ASTD CI has not grandfathered anybody in #cplpchat

8:31 pm

SuzNet:

Where are the biggest concentrations of CPLPs? #cplpchat

8:31 pm

MDOT_DCS:

@trishuhl ABSOLUTELY!!! Wear your pin, tell your story (give your elevator pitch)! #cplpchat

8:32 pm

trishuhl:

@SuzNet Q3) The next place the #CPLP will catch on is with the Workforce Investment Boards and on the 2010 Census #cplpchat

8:32 pm

SolutionSource:

@MDOT_DCS plz share the results #CPLPchat

8:32 pm

trishuhl:

Q3) It is because of the #ASTD #CPLP that learning & performance will be listed as a profession on the 2010 Census #cplpchat

8:33 pm

trishuhl:

@SuzNet #CPLPs are still mostly in the US - some states more than others - e.g. TX, VA, CA, IL - but lots of gobal interest. #cplpchat

8:33 pm

MDOT_DCS:

@SolutionSource It'll be my pleasure! #cplpchat

8:33 pm

SuzNet:

@MDOT_DCS @SolutionSource I second that - write a success post! #cplpchat

8:34 pm

trishuhl:

@SuzNet I had the pleasure of working with first #CPLP outside of North America - she's in Cameroon. We now have #CPLPs in UK, UAE #cplpchat

8:35 pm

MDOT_DCS:

@SuzNet Or at least a results post... LOL! (You know not every pilot project succeeds!) #cplpchat

8:35 pm

SuzNet:

@trishuhl Where's gobal? Is that a new country :)? #cplpchat

8:35 pm

larrystraining:

I use the #CPLP initials in presentations to other instructors as a contest, first person to text me what it means gets a prize. #cplpchat

8:35 pm

MDOT_DCS:

@trishuhl South Africa, Denmark or Norway too - right? #cplpchat

8:35 pm

larrystraining:

Many ask me more about it after the presentation. #cplpchat

8:35 pm

trishuhl:

@SuzNet Now we have #CPLPs also in South Africa, India, Europe - and we have had CPLPs in Canada since pilot #cplpchat

8:36 pm

trishuhl:

trishuhl:

@SuzNet Over the rainbow, I think :-) #cplpchat

8:37 pm

trishuhl:

The Launch of CPLPchat

What is CPLPchat?

#CPLPchat is a place for people interested in the ASTD Certified Professional in Learning & Performance (CPLP) credential to use the social messaging service Twitter to learn from one another and discuss topics around professional certification.

The first online chat is scheduled for Wednesday, December 9th from 8:30pm to 9:30pm EST / 5:30pm to 6:30pm PST.

We hope to make CPLPchat a frequent event. Ongoing CPLPchat events will be scheduled at a later date.

How does CPLPchat work?
The “#” sign, known as a hashtag, enables you to search for #CPLPchat and participate during the discussion. You can also use live-chat services such as TweetChat and TweetGrid or even seek out #CPLPchat in Twitter search.

What do I need in order to participate?

1] Follow @CPLPchat on Twitter

2] The use of a tool like TweetChat or TweetGrid is recommended to follow the discussion.

3] If so inclined, suggest a question/topic.

4] Set aside time to participate.

5] Use the tag #CPLPchat in your responses.

Who hosts the meetings?

I've created a Twitter ID called @CPLPchat that can be shared among moderators of the discussion, any given week. To participate, you simply need to follow this user, and to respond to the prompts.

What will we talk about?

Questions and topics are now being solicited via Twitter. Submit your ideas via Twitter by adding #CPLPchat to your tweet.

While we could discuss many topics in a given evening, it is currently thought that each discussion remain focused on a single broad topic.

Topics might include: substantive content from an Area of Expertise, study preparation strategies for the Certified Professional in Learning & Performance (CPLP) credentialing program, questions about the CPLP Knowledge Exam or Work Product submission, networking opportunity for CPLPs and CPLP candidates - as well as the CPLP curious, etc.

Why use Twitter?

Twitter allows anyone and everyone to respond, and offers a simple way to collect the responses of participants. As opposed to a live audio chat, the microblog interface allows you to split your attention among studying; work; television shows; parenting and the engaging conversation via CPLPchat.

What if I miss it?

The entire discussion will be accessible by simply searching the tag #CPLPchat via Twitter Search. We will also make the transcript available.

Will you join us?

Please feel free to leave a comment (below) on Why? or Why not?
