What is #CPLPTalk?

#CPLPTalk is a place for people interested in the ASTD Certified Professional in Learning & Performance (CPLP) credential to use the social messaging service Twitter to learn from one another and discuss topics around professional certification for learning & performance professionals.

Online chats are scheduled for every other Tuesday - from 8:30pm to 9:30pm EST / 5:30pm to 6:30pm PST.

Upcoming 2011 #CPLPTalk dates include:
  • April 12th
  • April 26th
  • May 10th
  • May 24th (we'll microblog live from ASTD ICE! #ASTD11)
  • June 7th
  • June 21st
How does #CPLPTalk work?
The “#” sign, known as a hashtag, enables you to search for #CPLPTalk and participate during the discussion. You can also use live-chat services such as TweetChat and TweetGrid or even seek out #CPLPTalk in Twitter search.

What do I need in order to participate?
  1. The use of a tool like TweetChat or TweetGrid is recommended to follow the discussion.
  2. Use the tag #CPLPTalk to monitor the discussion and in include the hashtag in your responses - to add your voice to the conversation!
  3. If so inclined, suggest a question/topic.
  4. Set aside time to participate.
  5. Optional: Follow @CPLPTalk (the user) on Twitter
Who hosts the meetings?
I've created a Twitter ID called @CPLPTalk that can be shared among moderators of the discussion, any given week.

What will we talk about?
Questions and topics are now being solicited via Twitter. Submit your ideas via Twitter by adding #CPLPTalk to your tweet.

While we could discuss many topics in a given evening, it is currently thought that each discussion remain focused on a single broad topic.

Topics might include: substantive content from an Area of Expertise, study preparation strategies for the Certified Professional in Learning & Performance (CPLP) credentialing program, questions about the CPLP Knowledge Exam or Work Product submission, networking opportunities for CPLPs and CPLP candidates - as well as the CPLP curious, etc.

Why use Twitter?
Convenience & flexibility! Twitter allows anyone and everyone to respond, and offers a simple way to collect the responses of participants. As opposed to a live audio chat, the microblog interface allows you to split your attention among studying; work; television shows; parenting and the engaging conversation via CPLPTalk.

What if I miss it?
The entire discussion is accessible - for a limited time only - simply by searching for the #CPLPTalk hashtag via Twitter Search.
